You create your feed. Like videos that encourage you, motivate you, empower you. Many argue that social media is bad for your mental health, but it is all dependent on how you utilize it. Recently, I met with Miss Sugar Hill Teen USA, Moanna Adams. Moanna has a podcast titled "Making Waves with Moanna Adams" where she brings on various teenagers and spreads her message of self-love. Moanna says, "I think it's important we remind ourselves that social media is a highlight reel. It's the most exciting and impressive parts of someone's life. Most people don't post their bad days their challenges, or the hours they spend scrolling." She makes a valid point. Before comparing yourself to someone you see on social media, it is important to understand that they aren't posting the times they feel down. She also states, "Everything a creator or influencer posts is thoroughly planned and prepped. It's an influencer's job to curate and produce a feed that is appealing, entertaining, and engaging." This also supports the fact that most influencers don't post the downs or obstacles! Their job is to entertain, so that's the kind of content they make. She shares, "You need to curate your social media feeds to be positive motivational spaces that you can go to learn, connect, and recharge." Some motivational influencers she recommends are Spencer Barbosa, Tam Kaur, Katlynn Nolann, Nicole Laeno, Madi B Webb, and Lexi Hidalgo. Moanna started her podcast when she was fifteen while on a trip with her family. She now has over fifty episodes where she goes into self-love, mental health, relationships, and personal growth. Each episode is a wave of motivation, honest conversations, expert insights, and actionable tips to help reach confidence. "Making Waves with Moanna Adams" is now streaming on Apple and Spotify. Lastly, she shares her favorite mental-health related advice. "Learn to love your own company and thrive when you are alone. People will come in and out of your life, but you have yourself forever. When you are confident being on your own and can be alone without feeling lonely, you have the freedom to let go of relationships that aren't serving you and focus on the ones that make you a better version of yourself."
